Have you ever been the new kid at school, or the latest hire at work? Maybe you’ve been first time visitors at church after a big move, or the newest neighbors on the block. Being the new guy or gal may be a little nerve-wracking, but it’s also an opportunity to reinvent yourself. It’s a chance to cultivate new habits, and build a great reputation without the baggage of your old life weighing you down.

When we accept Jesus into our heart, we receive a new life. It's a life that's filled with hope, purpose, and joy. But embracing this new life also means letting go of our old ways and the things that held us back before we met the Lord.

2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

It's not always easy to change our habits and let go of the things that once defined us. But when we surrender to Christ, we receive a new identity in Him. We become new creations, free from the chains of our past.

As believers, we are called to embrace the new life Christ offers us. God asks us to let go of our old ways, in order to be the person He created us to be. Following Him is both a gift, and a choice we make again and again.

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the gift of new life! We don’t have to be tied down by our old ways, or burdened by our former sins, because you have made us new. In Jesus’ name, amen.
